Leave a Footprint

Kensington Tours launched Kensington Cares to give back to the communities that share their beauty and culture with our guests. For every client who travels with us, we donate $50 of our profits to support education initiatives for marginalized children and communities. We encourage and enable Kensington Tours and Kensington Camps clients who want to ‘leave a footprint‘ to also support the projects we have undertaken in cooperation with the local communities.

Give Kensington clients direct and personal opportunities to donate school supplies, sponsor scholarships, and support and build rural schools.

Our Guiding Principle
Put every dollar to work (by leveraging our in-country staff, infrastructure and know how).

Kensington Cares supports education for disadvantaged children, including children in isolated rural communities, disabled children, orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS.  Quality education is the biggest lever between success and failure for a child and a key to overcoming poverty, creating stable, skilled and prosperous communities and driving national progress.  We seek to unlock human potential trapped in disadvantaged countries.

Kensington Cares leverages the on-the-ground infrastructure of Kensington Tours, to more cost effectively connect children and communities in need with people who want to make a difference.  Kensington Cares’ giving model offers global citizens personal and direct opportunities to ‘leave a footprint’ and enables an ongoing relationship by providing donors with online progress reports and photos. Donors have the option to visit the children and school they support.

There are many ways to give:

• Supplies ($50-$400)
  Give a care package(s) that includes a school uniform, textbooks, and school supplies to children and schools in need.

• Scholarships ($45/month)
  Provide a 1 year scholarship for one child or more, including all school-related expenses (school fees, a uniform, supplies, food, part of a teacher salary). Help a child develop life and leadership skills for success.

• Schools ($5,000+)
  Change the future for an entire community by building a classroom, two classrooms or a new rural school with desks and furnishings, plus an endowment to pay teachers salaries. Schools are built in cooperation with a local village which must put up the land and a portion of the labor.

Current Projects
Kensington Cares has been launched in Kenya and Tanzania, with plans to expand into all the countries where we operate our tours. Current projects are:   

• Irbaan Primary School, Masai Mara, Kenya
• By Grace Orphanage and School, Nairobi, Kenya
• Matumaini School for Disabled Children, Molo, Kenya
• Upendo Academy, Arusha, Tanzania

Clients staying at our Kensington Mara Tented Camp can speak with camp manager to arrange a visit to the Irbaan school. 

Clients travelling through Nairobi and Arusha are welcome to visit either of our projects in these locations.  These visits can be organized through the Arusha and Nairobi offices once in country or before departure through your Kensington Tours travel consultant.
